I found this at a new Democratic Unity 08 site http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php? forumid=154972&threadid=1842442. It is apparently a copy of an email from Thom Hartmann of Air America Radio.

Obama - Ask Hillary First!

Air American:

The issue at hand for the Democratic Party for winning in `08 is not losing to McCain but losing to a divided Democratic party. The first thing Obama should do if nominated is put Hillary on the ticket. Will the Republicans have a field day with her on the ticket? Yes! Is their some bad blood in the water due to some negative campaign strategies on the part of the Clintons? Probably. Can Hillary be a tough fighter able to play tough allowing Obama to stay higher above the fray? Yes!

Howard Dean said a few months ago that the loser will be the most important person in the Democratic presidential run this year. Hillary's legacy in this 08 election could place her as the healer and bring together a united Democratic party. As a winning ticket they also move this country closer to healing the racial and misogynist undertones that still have roots.

Can you picture Denver with Hillary's delegates close to half of all delegates demanding that she be included on the ticket? To some it's a crusade. If Hillary was the one out ahead - by just a little over half - wouldn't Obama supporters want the same?

Obama's offer and Hillary's acceptance of an Obama/Clinton ticket hold the healing and the power to move this country in the direction of the real change in Washington that Obama talks about. First he must bring the Democrats back together again.

Obama - ask Hillary first. And if she should say no, the offer would still have a unifying affect.

to be fully vetted by the Obama camp? If not, then this is a non-starter. That means that all their foreign money has to be examined and explained, Bill's relationships have to be explained both his business and personal relationships, Hillary's past has to be fully exposed and dealt with (i.e. You worked for a law firm headed by Communists? Is that true?), etc..

I'm sure he'll ask her first, but I don't think it'll be an Obama/Clinton ticket, and that's no disrespect of Senator Clinton. Just as Senator Obama wouldn't be the best suit for her VP, Senator Clinton's not necessarily the best bet for Senator Obama.

it's the best fit, because they both have enormous amounts of support from voters in the party. Unfortunately much of it is not naturally transferable.

Hillary supporter here. The reality is quite clear, Senator Obama will be the nominee. The nomination is no longer an issue. The main issue now is building unity in the party so we can have a big win in November.

and heard Randi Rhodes (she's been hired by our local affiliate even though she is no longer with AA nationally).

She was talking about a "unity" effort and saying that if someone who has been as controversial as she has during the campaign can take part in an unity effort, then so can everyone...cloaking herself in great sanctimony as she spoke, I might add.

It was all I could do to keep myself from gagging. Randi, you are such a "**cking whore!" Try apologizing a bit for your hate speech and then maybe you will have a bit of credibility.

I have always said I will vote for Obama if I have to, but please, please don't make me associate myself with Randi Rhodes in some great "unity" movement in which she is graciously condescending to include me.

Let me just be sure, however, you're not saying that you are against unity in the party, because Randi Rhodes is for it? And I hope you are not rejecting what Thom Hartmann is saying because Randi Rhodes was once with Air America. And finally the whole idea of unity is to bring people together who previuosly weren't together. IF Randi want's to now work for unity--I say welcome aboard. The issue is the democrats winning in November, and for this we all have to put our petty gripes aside.

Here's what I am saying (none / 0)

and I will try to say it clearly:

I think all Clinton supporters should vote for the nominee, whether it be Hillary or Bugs Bunny. Voting for McCain would be insanity.
If this is what you call "unity," then I am for "unity."

What I am not for is responding to Randi Rhodes' call to make nice and play together. I wouldn't give her the satisfaction of thinking that anything she said or did could possibly sway me.

I'm for all Democrats voting for our nominee, but Randi Rhodes can kiss my grits.

However, she does represent significant change over the last 8 years when it comes to policy.

I'm not saying I'd be thrilled to have her on the ticket, but I could deal with it by focusing on policy.

I congratulate you on your research. If I ever write a book, I want you as my researcher.:) Please forgive me if I don't respond to each of these allegations contained in your research, but I don't have the time or energy right now to do it justice. So, I'll concede your point. I'll even take it upon myself to now exercise utmost care in my future ratings. I really wasn't aware enough about the sensitivities of others regarding these ratings. I hope we can now stop the personal attacks, and get on with the business of electing a president.

Air America just had the good sense to start syndicating it (it had been self-syndicated) when Franken took his leave. Hartmann still owns it, lock, stock and barrel.

I love Thom, listen to him almost every day, but he's just wrong on this one.

It's as simple as that.

To her credit, I think the tone from her campaign has been much improved over the last couple weeks.

That's a great start... now - I'm afraid she needs to start walking back some of the parlor trick policies she tossed out in the heat of the panderpaign (I'm looking at you, gas tax!).

She needs to undig her heels on FL/MI - it's pretty clear now that everyone but Clinton is amendable to a 50% seating solution.

It weakens the ticket otherwise.

The 'unity ticket' cannot be such if it's a marriage of convenience, conducted as a shotgun wedding.

We'll have nothing but process stories, from here till November.

Like I said - kudos on the new tone in her stump speech - it's a great first step.

Now - she needs to start modifying policy.

Genuinely curious, because I did make an effort post it as non-inflammatory way, but I very much believe in the point.

While I suppose we're in the land of never knows now - I'd like to think I'd post the exact same thing were the roles reversed.

It's a generic thought on the POTUS/VP roles - and what happens when the nature of the pairing becomes a story.

It's simply not possible for such a situation to be detrimental to the ticket - and if the ticket survives, the ability of the President to do the job.

No.

This has been true throughout the primary. The idea of the 'dream ticket' has always been pushed by Clinton supporters and rejected by Obama supporters, no matter who's at the head of it.

It doesn't make any sense. Their style of governing is so different - they don't reinforce each other, and added to that, with Hillary as VP she'll be bombarded with "you said ___ about Barack Obama. Are you lying now or were you lying then?"

The opposite is true - as an Obama supporter who thought that Hillary Clinton would win - as most of us did - the idea of Obama as VP didn't make any sense either. And I would have had no problem voting for Hillary Clinton as the nominee.

Maybe someone who's thought this through more than I have can put it into words better, but by and large Obama supporters, with VERY RARE exception, have never liked the idea of the two of them on a ticket together.

We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies.
